Orlando FL started out as Jernigan FL in Mosquito County. Neither of these names was very flattering Jernigan was an early landowner whose militia was notorious for its violent acts. In 1856, the county was split and in 1857 Orlando became the seat of the newly formed Orange County. The city didn’t really grow much until after the Civil War, but by the 1890’s a thriving citrus industry had sprung up. WWII brought Army bases to Orlando FL, but the biggest economic change happened in 1965 when plans for Disney World were announced. Today Orlando FL is synonymous with Disney World in many people’s minds. If you have ever lived in or visited Orlando FL and gotten medical care here, OMR can help you access those records.
